#18 – Things to consider when choosing a CRM

"It does not necessarily mean it's the best one for you!"

A big part of growing your business is getting the right systems in place right?

I thought I would share a question I got the other day:

"What's the best CRM or email marketing tool to use so I can start using digital marketing more proactively?"

There are loads of tools out there.  Do any of these sound familiar?

Hubspot, Ontraport, Mailchimp, Active Campaign, Keap, Klaviyo, Kartra, ConvertKit, Constant Contact, MailerLite, Omnisend, Zoho...

I have seen trends in popularity come and go depending on what guru is promoting what, or what affiliate partner is doing a push.  And ultimately it does not matter too much what tool you use.

Instead focus on what you need your CRM to do.

Here are some questions to consider when choosing a CRM for your business::

  • Do you sell products and need to segment based on what people buy? Or cart abandonment?
  • Do you want automation rules and triggers - such as if someone clicks on an email link (or does not), then you send them a follow up email?
  • Do you want pretty designed email templates?
  • Do you want to use custom merge fields?
  • Do you need SMS automation?

If you are not sure what you might need, work with a strategist or automation experts to map out what is possible. Then you can find the solution that fits for you instead of the other way around - where you buy the tool and either never need half the features or are frustrated because it will never grow and scale into what you need.
